Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

What’s the difference between sewn and bonded polycarbonate windows?

60 mil polycarbonate is sewn between layers of fabric to create the viewing area, but 80mil polycarbonate is too thick to sew but can be bonded to the fabric using a patented process by Rainier Industries. Apex Stitching has worked with Rainier Industries for many years and would be happy to get bonded windows on your boat.

Do you travel for projects and how far will you travel?

I will travel to you on a case by case basis. I don’t like charging travel fees, so usually, distance is determined by how large of a project it is. for the most part as far north as Anacortes, south to Tacoma, and around the Puget Sound

Where are you located?

After almost a decade of having the shop located in Ballard, Apex Stitching has moved to a private shop just outside of Woodinville. Please call before coming by.

How do I get an estimate?

Please send an email describing what you would like, any photos of your boat, reference photos if available, and location

How much does your work usually cost?

All work is custom, and no two boats are the same. Please send an email describing what you would like, any photos of your boat, reference photos if available, and location.

Services

What kind of repairs can Apex Stitching do?

Repair work is a tricky thing and will be done on a discretionary basis. Window plastic replacement, zipper replacement, fixing snaps, and buckles, mending tears are all usually quickly managed by setting up a time to drop off. Sometimes I can even do it while you wait a few minutes. Other things, like sailboat dodgers and covers, are a bit different, and the way they were constructed and maintained will dictate whether I’d be willing/able to work on them. If your project has not been cleaned I will absolutely not work on it.

What kind of services does Apex Stitching offer?

Bimini tops (including frames), Flybridge and cockpit enclosures, covers, new fabrication, and design changes or just redoing what you already have. Currently not offering Upholstery or Carpet/Flooring services.

Materials

Is Apex Stitching affiliated with other vendors?

Apex Stitching works closely with many vendors across the USA to stay up to date on all new products. We also work with Rainier Industries if you wanted to go with Bonded Polycarbonate or Acrylic windows.

What type of materials does Apex Stitching use?

Apex Stitching only uses high-quality materials. Sunbrella is perfect for most boats in the Pacific Northwest, but in some cases, Stamoid may be used. Tuffak 40/60 (formerly known as Makrolon) polycarbonate for crystal clear windows, or Strataglass for windows you can roll-up. YKK zippers are only used. Stainless steel for frames and stainless hardware/fasteners are also always used.
